    Hormone Optimization for High Performers

    Carine Pierre, APRN·June 25, 2026·6 min read

You push hard. You eat well. You exercise. But lately, the energy is not there. The drive is not there. You feel like you are operating at 70% and you cannot figure out why.

For many high performers, the answer is hormonal. Testosterone, estrogen, progesterone, and thyroid hormones all decline with age, and the decline starts earlier than most people think. By your mid-30s, hormone levels can already be dropping enough to affect how you feel every day.

Testosterone: Not Just a "Male" Hormone

Testosterone matters for both men and women. In men, low testosterone is linked to fatigue, low libido, reduced muscle mass, and depressed mood. A systematic review published in 2024 found that testosterone replacement therapy improves muscle mass, strength, and physical function in hypogonadal men, and that lower testosterone levels are associated with decreased muscle mass and strength. Read the study here.

A separate large-scale study found that men on testosterone replacement therapy had lower mortality rates, fewer strokes, and fewer cases of atrial fibrillation compared to men who did not receive treatment. Read the study here.

The TRAVERSE Trial: What It Showed

The TRAVERSE Sexual Function Study, a large randomized controlled trial, evaluated testosterone therapy in middle-aged and older men with hypogonadism and low libido. After two years, TRT improved sexual activity, hypogonadal symptoms, and sexual desire, with the treatment effect maintained at 24 months. Read the study here.

The same evidence synthesis also reviewed safety. A comprehensive review published in Health Technology Assessment concluded that testosterone replacement therapy improves sexual function and quality of life without adversely affecting blood pressure, serum lipids, or glycemic markers. Why Testing Comes First

Hormone optimization is not about prescribing a hormone. It is about finding the right protocol for your body. That starts with comprehensive testing.

At Wellness Vitalized, we test free and total testosterone, estradiol, progesterone, DHEA, thyroid hormones, and more. We read them against optimal ranges, not just "normal" ranges. Then we build a protocol that is personalized to your goals, whether that is more energy, better recovery, improved libido, or sharper focus.

    BHRT vs. Synthetic Hormones

Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) uses hormones that are structurally identical to what your body produces naturally. Many patients tolerate them better than synthetic alternatives. For women, BHRT can address perimenopause and menopause symptoms. For men, TRT can restore the energy and drive that decline has taken.

    What to Expect

Hormone optimization is not a quick fix. It is a process. We test, we prescribe, we retest, and we adjust. Most patients begin to feel a difference within 4 to 8 weeks, with full optimization taking 3 to 6 months.

If you have been told your hormones are "fine" but you know something is off, it is worth a deeper look.
